City of North Las Vegas

The city of North Las Vegas is located within the Las Vegas metropolitan area, on the northern tip of the Vegas Valley and is approximately 98 square miles. Much like the city of Las Vegas, early settlers came to North Las Vegas in the mid-1800’s although the city itself was not established until 1917, twelve years after Las Vegas was founded. With the advent of World War II, an area just outside of North Las Vegas was one of various sites surveyed for an aerial gunnery school. The location was ultimately chosen because of its isolated setting and clear weather that made year round flying possible. Construction of the military training facility known as Nellis Air Force Base began in 1941 drawing new residents to the City of North Las Vegas due to its close proximity. The city is still home to many men and women who work at Nellis Air Force base today.

In recent years, the City of North Las Vegas has experienced dynamic growth and has been named one of the fastest growing cities in Nevada just behind Las Vegas and Henderson. Much of the land in the area that had previously remained relatively underdeveloped now showcases skillfully designed master planned communities encompassing brand new homes, parks, and office and retail developments. With a friendly atmosphere and civic pride, North Las Vegas describes itself as “Your Community of Choice.”
